Hong Kong BC1/BC2 Team and BC4 Pairs advanced to final four on the fourth day of the BISFed 2019 Hong Kong Boccia World Open.

The Hong Kong BC1/BC2 Team, comprising of LEUNG Mei Yee, CHAN Kam Chau, KWOK Hoi Ying Karen, YEUNG Hiu Lam and LOUNG John, took a 5-0 lead against the reigning world No.1 Thailand in first end of their first game in Pool A.  However, Thailand rolled out a lineup featuring current world champion Worawut SAENGAMPA and fresh World Open gold medallist Watcharaphon VONGSA and successfully came back to win Hong Kong 10-6.  Hong Kong faced Greece in their second game, and was able to maintain their advantage to win 8-5 after scoring 5-0 in first three ends.  The home team finished the second place to advance to elimination rounds with Thailand and will face Pool B top spot China in semifinals.

In BC4 Pairs events, LAU Wai Yan Vivian, LEUNG Yuk Wing and WONG Kwan Hang went sailing through their pool plays.  The world No. 3 pairing smashed Japan 12-0, China 7-0 and Colombia 6-0 and advanced with unbeaten record to semifinals.  They will face Great Britain for a place in finals.

The BC3 pairing, HO Yuen Kei, TSE Tak Wah and Liu Wing Tung, forced the game to tie-break 3-3 in their first Pool B match against Thailand.  However, they narrowly lost to Thailand in the extra end.  With 1-2 win-loss record, the Hong Kong pairs is eliminated early and will face strong rival Australia in the last pool match.

The rest Team and Pairs pool events and knockout rounds will take place tomorrow (19 May).  Public are welcome to watch the matches for free and support Hong Kong team at Ma On Shan Sports Centre.
