 Hong Kong Fencers Completed IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Championships 2019 Individual Events
Hong Kong wheelchair fencers completed IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Championships 2019 individual events on 20 September. Women's Foil category A YU Chui Yee proceeded to elimination round with five victories out of six and edged out teammate LAM Ka Man 15-6 in the round of 32 and Russia’s Evgeniya SYCHEVA 15-5 in the round of 16. However, she stopped at 7th after suffering a narrow 14-15 defeat against China’s Xufeng ZOU in the quarter-finals. FAN Pui Shan, NG Justine Charissa and LAM Ka Man stopped at the round of 32 and ranked 23rd, 24th and 25th respectively. Women's Epee category A NG Justine Charissa advanced with two wins and three losses, she outclassed Spain’s Begona GARRIDO 15-6 in the round of 32 and teammate YU Chui Yee 15-13 in the round of 16. However, she lost to China’s Jing BIAN 11-15 in the quarter-finals and finished in the 8th place. YU Chui Yee went to the elimination rounds undefeated and saw off America’s Catherine BOUWKAMP 15-10 in the round of 32. However, she was defeated by her teammate NG Justine Charissa in the round of 16 and stopped at the 10th place. Women's Sabre category A FAN Pui Shan advanced with 3-2 win-loss record and eliminated Russia’s Evgeniya SYCHEVA 15-12 in the round of 32, however, she lost to China’s Haiyan GU 4-15 in the round of 16 and stopped at 14th. Lam Ka Man failed to advance with one victory and four losses and ranked 29th. Women's Foil category B CHUNG Yuen Ping booked her place in knockout rounds with five victories and one loss. She received a bye in the round of 32 but lost to Georgia’s Irma KHETSURIANI 13-15 in the round of 16 to finished at the 9th place. TONG Nga Ting entered elimination rounds with 3-3 win-loss record. She first ended the hope of Great Britain’s Justine MOORE 15-4 in the round of 32, but then she experienced defeat in hands of Russia’s Ludmila VASILEVA 6-15 in the round of 16 and stopped at 13th. Women's Epee category B CHUNG Yuen Ping made it to elimination rounds with 1-3 win-loss record but she finished at 21st after losing to Ukraine’s Tetiana POZNIAK 6-15 in the round of 32. TONG Nga Ting finished at pool stages with 1-4 win-loss record and placed at 24th. Women's Sabre category B TONG Nga Ting moved forwarded to knockout rounds with two victories and three losses. She had a bye in the round of 32 but then was eliminated by China’s Shumei TAN 7-15 in the round of 16 and took 14th. Men's Foil category A CHEONG Meng Chai completed the pool matches undefeated and received a bye in the round of 64. Unfortunately, he bowed to Russia’s Mikhail KARPOV 4-15 in the round of 32 and placed at 17th. NG Chi Fung advanced with 3-3 win-loss record and benefited from a bye in the round of 64. He was defeated by France’s Damien TOKATLIAN 11-15 in the round of 32 and finished at 26th. CHAN Wing Kin proceeded to the round of 64 with two victories and four defeats and dispatched Norbert CALKA from Poland 15-3 in the round of 64. He stopped at 32nd after suffering in hands of Sai Chun ZHONG from China 6-15 in the round of 32. Men's Sabre category A CHAN Wing Kin went to the round of 32 with five victories and one loss. He brushed aside Hungary’s Sandor ZSOLNAI 15-10 in the round of 32 but failed to defeat Polish fencer Rafal ZIOMEK 5-15 in the round of 16 and took 9th. CHEONG Meng Chai advanced with 4-2 win-loss record and managed to outgunned Matthew CAMPBELL-HILL from Great Britain 15-8 in the round of 32. He was stopped by Ukraine’s Andrii DEMCHUK 3-15 in the round of 16 and took 11th. NG Chi Fung moved forward to elimination stages with 3-2 win-loss record, but he was blown off in the round of 32 by Polish athlete Rafal ZIOMEK 7-15 and ranked 24th. Men's Foil category B GLASS Sean stopped in pool events with five losses and ranked 28th. Men's Epee category B GLASS Sean ranked 32nd with 1-5 win-loss record in pool plays.
