The Awards Presentation Ceremony of Cathay Pacific 2019 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards was held at West Kowloon Cultural District on 10 April. Para badminton athlete CHAN Ho Yuen claimed his second Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards while boccia athlete HO Yuen Kei won the Hong Kong Most Promising Sports Stars Awards. Meanwhile, Boccia BC4 Pairs (LAU Wai Yan Vivian, LEUNG Yuk Wing and WONG Kwan Hang) and Para table tennis athlete WONG Yue Ching were on the shortlists of Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event and Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards respectively.
CHAN Ho Yuen achieved excellent performance at international tournaments in 2019, including capturing the Hong Kong’s first ever World Championships silver medal in Men's Singles WH2 and defeating his toughest opponent – the World No.1 player to scoop gold medals at international competitions. He is currently the Athlete's Commission member of Badminton World Federation (Para Badminton) and is committed to support the sport development. Earlier, CHAN was also awarded Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Young Persons 2019 and encouraged the youth to work miracles with courage from his own story.
HO Yuen Kei shows continuous improvement in sporting performance and results. She first showed her talent in 2017 Asia and Oceania Championships by winning her first individual silver at Asia-Oceania Championships and later she brought home the bronze medal at Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games after sweeping her competitors. In 2019, HO was in form to punch the ticket for Hong Kong to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games by bagging golds medals in both BC3 Individual and Pairs events at Asia-Oceania Championships. She also demonstrated her enormous potential by making a significant rise in BC3 world ranking, moving to current No. 2 from No. 6 in 2017.
