Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Competition Day 7: LEUNG Yuk Wing to Concentrate on Third Place Playoff After Loss in Boccia Semi-finals
Three Hong Kong boccia representatives competed in Individual eliminators on the seventh competition day at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. BC4 player LEUNG Yuk Wing dominated in quarterfinals, winning Slovakia player Michaela BALCOVA 8-0. Meeting Thailand’s Pornchok LARPYEN in semi-finals, LEUNG Yuk Wing took lead in opening end 3-0, however, Pornchok LARPYEN was able to turn the table after four ends. Losing 3-6 in the semi-finals, LEUNG will concentrate on the bronze medal match facing Chinese athlete Yuansen Zheng tomorrow (1 September) at 8:30am.
Moreover, BC4 player LAU Wai Yan Vivian was eliminated by Slovakia’s Samuel ANDREJCIK 1-4 in quarterfinals while BC2 athlete YEUNG Hiu Lam, playing against Brazilian bowler Maciel SANTOS in quarter-finals, was 0-5 down in the first end, but pulled back to 5-5. However, YEUNG failed to obtain score in the final decider and lost 5-6.
In Men’s 200m Individual Medley SM14 heats, TANG Wai Lok clocked 2:18.87 to rank 14th and could not make it to finals. For Women’s event, CHAN Yui Lam ranked 10th with a time of 2:37.70, and Cheung Ho Ying set her personal best 2:38.46 to take the 11th spot overall. Both of them missed out on a place in the final.
Hong Kong team will compete in boccia BC4 Individual third place playoff and athletics Women’s 100m T36. Equestrian athletes TSE Pui Ting Natasha and TSANG Tin Chi Timothy will return home with Cathay Pacific Airways flight CX6321 tomorrow morning and are expected to arrive at 1:40pm (Hong Kong time).
